just a wandering thought, what kind of religon would the jw's be if the situation was reversed and the gb was all female, only women could hold postions of power in the cong etc....?.

Ive often thought about this.
No one can deny that some women have good leadership and organisatonal skills, just like some men also have the same type of skills. What you have between your legs is irrelevant.
In my opinion the main problem that could arise from a co-leadership of sexes, is that men and women may start competing with eachother for positions and roles. An 'us versus them' mentality could break out, and could lead to co-operation problems, dissentions etc.

recently there was a thread about the evils of "social networking" for witnesses.
facebook, my space and other similar sites are "worldly" and to be avoided.. before you know, nearly everything will be considered unacceptable for a christian witness of jehovah.
let's have fun and go to extremes...what else will be a no-no?.
Of course the WTBTS will have this view of Social Networking.
Anything that gives people a measure of freedom, independence, fun and individuality, the WTBTS will discourage it, and websites such as Facebook, Myspace etc will be demonised by the WTBTS.
Its just yet another example of how paranoid the WTBTS is. They will probably be thinking the more connected and socially active you become, the more its going to lead you away from 'spiritual' matters.
Anything of anykind that would lead you to spending less time following the WTBTS, whether it be art, football, bellydancing, pigeon keeping will be frowned upon by the org.
The Org demands exclusive attention and will not tolerate any competition.

I used to work in Peterhead (just near Aberdeen), i've got to admit i could hardly understand anyone when i first got there, the Doric accent is so strong i should have took an interpreter with me. lol.
Nice people the Jocks are though, i totally enjoyed working with them.

as a true scot, i'm deeply passionate about most things scottish, any possibly one of our small nation's most successful export is my main favourite - our single malt whisky heritage.. i'm writing this while savouring a 12 year old highland park - distilled in the orkney islands, the most northerly distillery in scotland.
it is one of my favourites - it was my late father's favourite tipple.
yet, only 500m from my house is scotlands oldest legal whisky distillery - glenturret, in crieff.
You've touched on a favourite topic of mine.
My favourite is Balvenie, particularly the Double Wood brand. (double wood meaning is matured in two seprate type of casks).
Also like; Old Pulteny, Aberlour, Glenfiddich, Isle of Jura.
Also of the 'peaty' veriety; Laphroiag, Talisker, Bowmore.

all religions involve a measure of fantasy.
we all need some fantasy and seek it out in movies, novels, video games or other forms of entertainment.
danger arises when fantasy dominates our lives and pushes practical matters out of the way.. when the watchtower was 'young' as an organization, it attracted a large number of people who were accustomed to hard work and dealing with the practical challenges of economic depression and war.
Interesting.
However i think this principle of 'Fantasy' affects all religions not just the JWs. They all seem to have their own hopes, eventualities, and ideals.
No religion can be concretely proven as being the one and only truth, otherwise we would all be followers of it. Therefore in some degree all followers of religons live in their own little fantasy world.

i'm just curious here.. as i am exiting currently and trying to find my new place (and belief system) in this world, i am wondering what the experience was like for other xjws.

Finding a new belief system does not necessarily mean you have to find a new faith or religion after leaving the JWs.
In my opinion, the JW religion and the majority of other religions are just a set of rules & instructions based on man's interpretation of a supposed divinely inspired handwritten document.
If you do believe in him, then why not just follow God in your own personal way based on your own knowledge and interpretation?
Personally myself, after i left the JW org i have become agnostic. I have absoloutely no desire to seek out any new belief system or continue in any faith, spiritual or religous matter of any sort.

I've only been on this board for a few weeks but it seems to me that hardly anyone here actually bothers with teaching.
Whereas you have just taken the liberty to post a large extract from the New Testament in the knowledge that it will be read by number of people.
So who's actually doing the teaching then?

the fact that you were a witness, did it actually "ruin" your life?

I think the longer you are in the Org, the more ruined your life becomes.
If you're only in it for a short while (a few years or so), you realise its a load of crap and then leave, then the damage may only be minimal or marginal.
If you're in it for all of your life and then leave (born into it and leave say in your fifties), then i imagine the scale of destruction would be quite considerable. The task of rebuilding your life completely from scratch, i can only imagine would maybe like being born again. Anyone who has done this has my utmost respect and admiration.
